Role Purpose:

The Data Engineering & Analytics Lead is responsible for building, operating and evolving Ondato's data platform, ensuring product and operational data is reliable, secure, accessible and transformed into actionable insights. The role enables data-driven decision-making across Product, Finance, Operations and Commercial teams by developing scalable data pipelines, trusted datasets, product analytics and business reporting capabilities.

The role works closely with Engineering, DevOps, Product and business stakeholders to ensure the underlying data architecture, infrastructure and governance model support a reliable, secure, compliant and scalable data platform.

What You'll Do:

Data Platform and Engineering

  • Design and evolve the company's data architecture, data models and data platform roadmap.
  • Build, maintain and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines that transform product and operational data into trusted, documented datasets.
  • Own the design and operation of the data warehouse, transformation layer, orchestration, monitoring and data quality processes.
  • Define and maintain data quality standards, freshness checks, completeness checks, monitoring, alerting and SLAs for business-critical datasets.
  • Collaborate with DevOps on cloud infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, security and platform scalability required for the data platform.

Analytics Engineering & BI

  • Deliver reliable datasets, semantic models and dashboards supporting product, commercial, operational and financial decision-making.
  • Establish KPI definitions, metric logic, documentation, lineage and ownership standards so that business teams work from consistent numbers.
  • Improve reporting reliability, reduce manual data preparation and enable self-service analytics where appropriate.
  • Work with Finance and Commercial teams to support revenue, billing, customer usage and management reporting.

Product Analytics & Usage Data

  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to define product event tracking, analytics standards and event-based data models.
  • Enable product analytics, customer usage reporting, operational performance monitoring and product optimisation initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate, auditable product usage data for billing, revenue reporting, customer reporting and other business-critical processes.

Governance, Security & Leadership

  • Establish data governance, documentation, access control, KPI ownership and data ownership standards.
  • Ensure data platform design follows security, privacy and compliance requirements, including appropriate handling of sensitive product and customer data.
  • Lead the Data Engineering function by setting technical direction, defining priorities, mentoring team members, reviewing data models and pipelines, and promoting engineering best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a senior data partner to stakeholders across Product, Finance, Operations, Commercial, Engineering and DevOps.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Proven experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering or a similar role within a SaaS environment.
  • Strong SQL and Python skills, with practical experience building production-grade data pipelines and data models.
  • Experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and modern data warehouses or lakehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, Azure Synapse or similar.
  • Experience with data modelling approaches such as dimensional modelling, star schemas, data marts or metric layers.
  • Experience with data transformation and orchestration tools such as dbt, Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, Azure Data Factory or similar.
  • Experience working with product analytics, event-based data models, BI and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of cloud data platforms and the ability to work closely with DevOps on infrastructure, deployment, monitoring and security.
  • Experience defining data quality checks, documentation, data lineage, ownership and governance standards.
  • Experience leading technical projects, data initiatives or small engineering/data teams.
  • Strong analytical thinking, ownership, communication and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in fintech, regtech, identity verification, KYC, fraud prevention, compliance or another data-sensitive SaaS domain.
  • Experience supporting usage-based billing, revenue reporting or customer usage analytics.
  • Experience with Power BI, Looker, Tableau, Metabase or similar BI platforms.
  • Experience working in GDPR-sensitive or security-focused environments.
  • Experience designing product event schemas and tracking standards together with Product and Engineering teams.

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to build and shape the future of Ondato's data platform, analytics capabilities and data strategy.
  • A high-impact role with ownership of the end-to-end data ecosystem.
  • Monthly salary 5500-7500 EUR gross.
  • A hybrid working model to support flexibility and a healthy work-life balance.
  • Private health insurance to give you peace of mind for all your health needs.
  • An extra paid day off every month to help you recharge.
  • One-off financial support for significant personal life events.
  • Company-wide and team events that bring everyone together.
